ACRE Webcast on June 15th
New rules adopted in the 2008 Farm Bill are designed to help farmers continue to grow crops that feed and fuel the world, while surviving unpredictable market cycles and weather disasters. But, how can Iowa farmers determine whether they should embrace these new programs or stay on their current path?
The Farm Bill webcast is brought to you by the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF) in partnership with Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa State University and the USDA Farm Service Agency. The webcast recorded on Monday, June 15th features a series of experts to help farmers decide on program enrollment. Speakers include: an expert on program eligibility, Kevin McClure from the USDA Farm Service Agency; Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program expert Chad Hart, Iowa State University and IFBF researcher Sterling Liddell, who will use examples to illustrate ACRE decisions.
The webcast is 90 minutes
ACRE Calculators:
Land-grant universities will feature calculators to make ACRE enrollment decisions. Results will be based on a 2009 yield forecast and an annual 2009/10 through 2012-13 national marketing year average cash price forecast.
Iowa State University provides a free downloadable Excel file that can be run on-line or downloaded and used later. Once data is inputted, it’s easy to run “what if” scenarios and print out results. Iowa yield data is located under Example. You can find other state’s Yield Data and enter information under Blank.
The ISU Calculator Excel file is referred to as a Decisions Tool found on their 2008 Farm Bill Information page:

Texas A&M University has a free calculator for estimating ACRE payments. You will need to scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit the “I agree” button to start the program. The A&M calculator runs on their site so there is no need to down load the program. Their calculator gives growers suggested numbers but the user is allowed to enter their own forecast.

The University of Illinois also has a free ACRE Comparison that provides information about the user and then download their Excel file. If you have a problem when downloading the software, check the security code setting on your internet browser.
