Reducing Moisture Loss: Fertilizing

Moderation is the key to fertilizer use in water efficient landscapes. Fertilizers heavy in nitrogen promote growth, thus increasing the water demands of plants.

Fertilizers high in potassium encourage root growth. This is often desirable because good root systems improve a plant's ability to take up water.

Apply fertilizers at a time in the plant's life cycle when it will be most beneficial.
