Project BestFit Evaluation Information

The Project BestFit Evaluation will include all of the following activities:

Fitness Testing

  1. PE teacher surveys- these will help us know if our methods and training are effective.  Also will help track the time spent using innovative fitness equipment in the classroom.  These surveys will be sent to teachers electronically on a quarterly basis.
  2. Student surveys- selected students from each school in grades 5-12 will take the Children's Physical Activity Correlates.  A subsample of students from this group will also use an accelerometer to verify their physical activity levels.
  3. Parent surveys- Parents will be evaluated during student conferences.  We will be asking teachers to ask parents if they are willing to take a short survey.
  4. Classroom Observation- ISU graduate students will conduct class observations at selected DMPS schools. We will send out a schedule when it is available.
  5. Fitness and health assessment records- We will be using the Fitnessgram and Trifit data to track student progress in improving their levels of health and physical activity.  We will be using Fall 2003, Spring 2004 and Fall 2004 data.
  6. Administrative Records- these will include:
    a.  Teacher attendance for trainings and meetings; meeting agendas
    b.  Involvement in Pedometer Challenge
    c.  Number of Fitnessgram reports distributed
    d.  Development of adventure education and fitness manuals
    e.  Checklist of activities accomplished.
