Our typical enrollment period if from September 1st through May 15th. Don't worry, if you have missed the enrollment deadline for this year we can still get you enrolled so that you can fully participate for next year!
4-H is a program offered for youth in the 4th through the 12th grades. There is a seperate "Clover Kids" program for children k-3 . Click here for more information.
Step 1: Pick a club.
You may choose a club based on location, age, or special interest. To see a map of 4-H clubs in Polk County click Here.
Step 2: Contact the Club Leader
If club leader information is not available from the club map, please contact Phil or Erin . We are happy to assist you in contacting a club leader. It is important that you make contact with the club leaders, as they can give you specific information about the club such as meeting times, special club rules, and whether they are already at full membership.
Step 3: The Paperwork
There are three items that need to be submitted to the club leader in order to become enrolled in 4-H. The first is the 4-H Enrollment Form. Directions can be found here if you need help filling it out. The 4-H Enrollment Form tells the club leader and the extension office who you are, where you live, and what your project interests are. The second form is the 4-H Medical Information/Release Form. This form gives us emergency contact and health information. It also includes areas to indicate permission to seek emergency healthcare, to transport 4-H'ers, and to photograph 4-H members at 4-H events. Lastly, there is an annual program fee of $30 to enroll in 4-H. This fee helps to support the county and state 4-H program. If you feel that this fee would constitute and undue financial burden a Polk County Enrollment Scholarship is available. This enrollment fee is waived for children of military parents. All of these forms are also available from club leaders and the Polk County Extension office, and should be turned in to your club leader.
Step 4: Learn about 4-H
You should spend some time familiarizing yourself with the 4-H program. Look for a project in your interest areas by checking in the Pick-A-Project Paper. Orient yourself to 4-H with our "How to" Guide for 4-H Families, or consider attending one of our regularly scheduled "New Family" Workshops. Contact Diana for more information about the next workshop date and topic.
