4-H After School: Bridges Program

Bridges kitThe Bridges program introduces students to the exciting career of engineering as they develop abilities of technological design. Challenge your students to design a structure to meet a specific need. Working cooperatively, students will build a structure and evaluate their design, then communicate their design process and product. Focus of the unit is to build a truss bridge large enough for students to crawl across.

Science Skills:

The curriculum is correlated to the National Science Standards:

  • Science and technology - abilities of technological design; understanding about science and technology
  • Science in personal and social perspectives - science and technology in local challenges
  • History and nature of science - science as a human endeavor

Cost:  $35 per participant; 12-15 participants

Free bridge building check-out kits and preview copies of the curriculum are available through Polk County Extension office.
