Fairs, livestock auctions, swap meet and exotic sales will not include birds. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship today announced an order to cancel all live bird exhibitions at county fairs, the Iowa State Fair and other gatherings of birds due to avian influenza.

The Pocahontas County Extension and Outreach will be offering a babysitting clinic for 5th and 6th grade students.  The Babysitting Clinic will be held on June 16, 2015 at the Fonda Public Library from 9:00a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Women, Land and Legacy (WLL) is an outreach project in Iowa that brings women that are interested in agriculture and natural resources together at the local level to converse, listen and become empowered for involvement on their landscape and in their communities.  Pocahontas and Buena Vista Counties are the newest counties to become part of this statewide effort and have chosen to work together and combine efforts.   WLL is sponsored by a partnership of USDA, state, and local agencies along with other local organizations, businesses, and local agricultural women.

The Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) is partnering with the Iowa Pork Industry Center (IPIC) and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach swine field specialists to offer free training and preparation sessions aimed at helping Iowa pork producers prepare for a Common Swine Industry Audit (CSIA).

Commercial production topics and practices will be featured at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach 2015 Fruit and Vegetable Field Day on Monday, Aug. 10 at the ISU Horticulture Research Station, near Ames.

  • Production and business management information for commercial producers on wide variety of fruits and vegetables.

  • One-on-one financial counseling, computerized analysis of the farm business, and referral to other extension programs or outside services that may be useful in farm financial planning.
