The Plymouth County Extension Office celebrated 150 years of Iowa State University with Chamber Coffee. Over 40 people from the Plymouth County area enjoyed 150th Birthday Cake, coffee, and cider.
To help Iowa State University celebrate 150 years county extension offices all over the state participated in community service events.
Plymouth County Extension located in Le Mars coordinated a county wide tree planting project. “Our goal was to select a community service project that would be long lasting,” according to Carol Schneider, Plymouth County Extension Education Director. “We selected the tree planting project for several reasons. There were seven original colleges or curriculums at Iowa State College and there are seven schools in Plymouth County. We also recognize that the local school is where young people receive their foundation in education before they go on to further their education at universities, colleges and trade schools. Therefore, we thought it was fitting to do something that encompassed the entire county while honoring the impact the school has on young people’s education.” she adds.
A bronze plaque signifying the county wide community service project was also unveiled at the chamber coffee event.
