February 3, 2016

Iowa Learning Farms, in partnership with Practical Farmers of Iowa and the Iowa Cover Crop Working Group, will host a cover crop workshop on Wednesday, February 24, from 10:30a.m.-12:30p.m. at the Iowa State University (ISU) Northwest Research and Demonstration Farm.  The event is free, open to the public, and includes a complimentary meal.

The NW Iowa Young Farmer group with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will be gathering on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 starting at 2:00 p.m. in Orange City at the Sioux County Extension Office to learn more about consumer messaging and media coaching through Consumer Engagement Training.

The first Empowing Women in Agriculture event will be held on Thursday, February 25, from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Plymouth County Office in Le Mars.

The Department of 4-H Youth Development with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Field Specialist – 4-H Youth Development within the Field Team West. This position is part of the field team west and will serve northwest Iowa in Cherokee, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Plymouth, and Sioux Counties with a base office location to be negotiable within the counties served.   • Coordinating education programs and service for beginning farmer efforts statewide and assessing the needs of beginning and retiring farmers. Providing support in financial management and planning, legal issues, tax laws, and many more services.

  • Providing timely, critically objective information to producers, professionals and agribusinesses concerning the application of important developments in agricultural law and taxation and a primary source of professional educational training in agricultural law and taxation.

  • The only statewide survey that collects information on land values in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. Current and historical data available.

  • One-on-one financial counseling, computerized analysis of the farm business, and referral to other extension programs or outside services that may be useful in farm financial planning.

  • The Agricultural Marketing Resource Center is an electronic, national resource for producers interested in value-added agriculture. Browse commodities and products, investigate market and industry trends, study business creation and operation, read research results and locate value-added resources.

  • The Value Added Agriculture Program (VAAP) provides unbiased, science-based information to help establish or expand agricultural-related businesses in Iowa.

  • Helping to make agriculture more energy efficient. Tips and pointers on equipment maintenance and operation, farmstead electric use, and fuel efficiency.

  • An educational program dedicated to strengthening women's roles in the modern farm enterprise.
