Iowa Learning Farms’ April Webinar Focuses on Women in Agriculture
AMES, Iowa — The Iowa Learning Farms’ (ILF) April 18 webinar will feature Leigh Adcock, executive director of Women, Food and Agriculture Network (WFAN). The webinar, beginning at 11:30 a.m., is part of an ILF-hosted series, held on the third Wednesday of each month through Adobe Connect. All that is needed to participate is a computer with Internet access.
Adcock’s presentation, "Women Caring for the Land,” will outline this WFAN program. WFAN is a non-profit organization that provides networking, information and leadership development opportunities to women in sustainable agriculture. One of WFAN’s strongest programs is “Women Caring for the Land,” an innovative peer-to-peer outreach method that targets non-operator female farmland owners to improve conservation on their land. Women now own or co-own 50 percent of Iowa’s farmland and are eager conservation partners when properly informed and supported. This program has helped up to 65 percent of meeting participants achieve measurable conservation results within one year of attending. Adcock has been executive director of Women, Food and Agriculture Network since 2008.

Iowa Learning Farms is a partnership between the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, Iowa Natural Resources Conservation Service and Iowa Department of Natural Resources (USEPA section 319); in cooperation with Conservation Districts of Iowa, the Iowa Farm Bureau and the Iowa Water Center.
