The spring 2014 Current Issues in Nutrition conference examines food safety concerns and what safe food really means. The online conference for nutrition and health professionals is organized by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the ISU Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.

On April 15 all Iowans are encouraged to wear purple to show their appreciation for military children and their families. During April, the Month of the Military Child, and throughout the year Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has resources for military families.

Children need adequate sleep to help their brains and bodies grow and develop. In April Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is sponsoring an interactive webinar for parents, grandparents and teachers covering how sleep impacts children’s health and behavior.

The Iowa Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution March 27 celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Smith-Lever Act, the founding legislation of the nationwide Cooperative Extension System.

As tractors, combines and other farm equipment have become larger and heavier, Iowa farmers’ concerns about soil compaction and its impacts on crop yields have increased as well, according to the 2013 Iowa Farm and Rural Life Poll.

Iowans have a chance to brush up on their money management skills during Money Smart Week April 5-12, 2014.
