Osceola County 4-Hers Compete at the Iowa State Fair

Osceola County 4-Hers did an excellent job of representing Osceola County and in promoting 4-H.  Osceola County sent 24 static exhibits to the Iowa State Fair and received 17 blue ribbons, 5 red ribbons and 2 white ribbons.  "These 4-Hers have shown a tremendous amount of knowledge in their project areas" said Chuck Morris, Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development director. "They have developed important life skills as they worked to achieve their goals." 

Osceola County 4-Hers also had the opportunity to demonstrate their communications skills in front of a fair audience receiving 2 Excellence,  1 Recognition and 1 “Share-the-Fun” Participation awards. These communications skills were enjoyed during the Educational Presentation, Working Exhibit and the Share-the-Fun acts in the 4-H Exhibit Building.  "Almost any time fairgoers come into the 4-H Exhibit Building they can learn from a 4-Her participating in a communications activity," said Mitchell Hoyer, program coordinator for Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development.  "Effective communication means appealing to the interests of your audience."  Judges were also present to give the 4-Hers skill building pointers and comments.
