Follow these step-by-step instructions to record a satellite program on videotape.
1. Check the cables. Use drawings from the ISU Satellite Operations Manual (tan pages, Hook-up Methods 1, 2, 3, 4) to confirm hook-up:
The signal from the satellite is now routed through the VCR. The VCR power must be on and in TV position for the satellite signal to be received.
2. Turn VCR power ON.
3. Turn television power ON.
4. On the television, select the TV position (out) on the VCR/fV selector.
5. On the VCR, select the T position on the VCR/TV selector. The switch is on the right side of the VCR.
6. Insert the blank videotape.
7. Tune in the desired program on the satellite receiver.
8. On the VCR, depress the RECORD button. (Recording has started now.)
9. On the VCR, depress STOP to end the recording.
The numbers below correspond with the numbers indicated on the model 9000 satellite receiver and remote control, Exhibit A, and the model 6600 satellite receiver and remote control, Exhibit B.
1. Turn on POWER at the receiver or the remote control. Be sure the TV set is also turned on so you can see a picture.
2. Call up the key letter for the satellite desired; for example, S for Spacenet, T for Telstar, G for Galaxy, etc. See C Band Satellite Arc illustration, Exhibit C, for satellite locations. Push the TYPE button until the desired satellite appears in the window and on the TV screen.
3. Push the NUMBER button until the number of the satellite desired appears on the receiver and on the TV screen. Typical numbers might be 3, 4, or 6.
4. Push CALL and wait. The dish should rotate to the preprogrammed aiming position for this satellite. If the dish does not move, you have a problem. There is either a mechanical failure of the outside drive motor, or the satellite is not programmed into the memory. If the number display on the satellite receiver blinks twice and does not move the dish, that satellite is not in the memory. See the ISU Satellite Operations Manual for programming instructions.
5. Use the channel UP and DOWN arrow keys to get the receiver on the correct channel number. If there is no picture on the channel desired, press the polarity button once to see if a picture comes in. On the model 9000 receiver, this switch is labeled V/H, and is only on the receiver. On the model 6600 two piece receivers, the button is labeled POLARITY and appears on both the remote control and receiver.
6. If the channel desired is not broadcasting yet, find any active channel on the same satellite so you can fine tune while waiting for the broadcast. Be aware that some satellites have a large number of encoded channels that scramble the picture (usually not the audio) unless you pay a fee.
Some final adjustments may be necessary for optimal sound and picture.
7. Alternate between the EAST and WEST buttons for maximum clear picture. Usually the maximum distance from EAST to WEST for a particular satellite is no more than 20 digits on the satellite position indicator on the front panel of the receiver.
8. Alternate the SKEW buttons with the PLUS and MINUS signs for best picture. You are making final polarity adjustments when you do this, and the buttons are sensitive to the touch. On the model 9000 receiver, this must be done at the front panel of the receiver. On the model 6600 two piece receiver, the buttons are on both receiver and remote control.
9. Alternate the VIDEO FINE buttons with the PLUS and MINUS signs for the best picture. Be aware that this adjustment will kill the audio while the buttons are depressed.
10. Most of the time the AUDIO will be fine without adjustment. Most extension programs are broadcast in monaural, single language, without any stereo or other use of channel 2 audio track. Audio is usually 6.2 or 6.8 and needs no further adjustment. In the unlikely event an adjustment is necessary, alternate between the arrow up/down buttons as needed. Adjust audio channel 1 and 2 separately.
