Farmers and the public are invited to attend Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach’s Annual Northwest Research and Demonstration Farm Field Day on Wednesday, July 12 at the Northwest Iowa Research and Demonstration Farm near Sutherland. Check-in and registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the program starting at 9:30 a.m. ISU Extension and Outreach specialists will present timely research and crop production information throughout the morning.

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach recently released the schedule for the Annual Northwest Iowa Land Leasing and Value Meetings. The meetings are intended for current and prospective tenants and landlords, and will cover current cash rental rates and land value survey results; how to determine a fair cash rent for 2017-18; effective tenant/landlord communication; strategies for writing and terminating a farm lease; and other ag lease decision-making resources.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host a series of field days in June designed to help farmers understand how to both improve their profit and improve water quality. The field days are part of ISU Extension and Outreach’s Nitrogen and Water Week, which runs from June 27-29.

Crop Scouting Basics for Women is a multi-session workshop being offered to women who are interested in learning about crop scouting basics. This series of workshops will be held on June 8, 22, and July 6 at the Iowa State University (ISU) Northwest ResearchFarm located at 6320 500th St., Sutherland, IA 51058.  The focus will be on crop development and staging to find what is ‘normal’ in order to help identify what is ‘not normal’.

  • The Agricultural Marketing Resource Center is an electronic, national resource for producers interested in value-added agriculture. Browse commodities and products, investigate market and industry trends, study business creation and operation, read research results and locate value-added resources.

  • One-on-one financial counseling, computerized analysis of the farm business, and referral to other extension programs or outside services that may be useful in farm financial planning.

  • The Value Added Agriculture Program (VAAP) provides unbiased, science-based information to help establish or expand agricultural-related businesses in Iowa.

  • Helping to make agriculture more energy efficient. Tips and pointers on equipment maintenance and operation, farmstead electric use, and fuel efficiency.

  • An educational program dedicated to strengthening women's roles in the modern farm enterprise.

  • Works to promote efficient pork production technologies in Iowa, maintain Iowa's pork industry leadership and strengthen rural development efforts.

  • Working to develop and deliver the latest in research-based information to improve the profitability and vitality of Iowa’s beef industry.
