Manufacturing Guidelines
On March 7, 2003, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed the first manufacturing standards for the dietary supplement industry. This new proposal would make it a requirement that supplement manufacturers follow standards for good manufacturing practices to ensure the purity, quality, strength, and exact composition of dietary supplements. As of now, the standards for preparing and packaging supplements are left to the discretion of the manufacturer. If put into action, this FDA proposal could cut fraud and contamination of supplements.
