Bob Dodds is assistant vice president for the County Services unit of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Professional Experience

Bob served as interim assistant vice president through 2015 and early 2016. During his interim, he led the writing of the County Services strategic plan and oversaw revisions to the county insurance program and county data base. Through the Human Sciences Engaged Scholarship program, he helped develop a conduit for faculty members without formal extension appointments to submit funding requests to conduct research projects in Iowa counties. He cooperated with the Iowa Association of County Extension Councils to revise the personnel handbook, which then was adopted by all 100 county extension districts.
Previously Bob served as the Region 20 director since 2009. He was instrumental in developing the Rising Stars Internship program along with Cheryl Heronemus, director of Region 1. Before accepting the regional director position, he served as Lee County director since 1983. At the 2014 annual conference, Bob was recognized for 30 years of service to ISU Extension and Outreach.


Bob earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agriculture education from Iowa State University. He also has experience as a vocational agriculture instructor.
