Start Garden Transplants at Home

AMES, Iowa – Gardeners can learn how to start annual flowers and vegetables at home and to enjoy them earlier in the growing season with Starting Garden Transplants at Home (PM 874), an Iowa State University Extension and Outreach publication.

The publication, written by Richard Jauron, ISU Extension horticulturist, informs gardeners on how to select seeds, choose potting mixes and containers and move seedlings to the garden. Growing seedlings at home allows gardeners to select the specific cultivar they want and to control seedling growth.

“Starting annual flowers and vegetables at home can be fun and offer several advantages,” said Jauron. “Success with growing transplants requires many elements, and the publication offers suggestions for getting the best results.”
