Beef Seedstock Conference Coming to Ames
AMES, Iowa -- The science surrounding beef genetics, expected progeny differences (EPDs), and DNA continues to evolve at a rapid pace. As a result, several industry associations and affiliates have come together to host a one-day Beef Seedstock Conference featuring national experts and the very latest information, entitled "Genetic Innovations for Breeding Programs."
"Seedstock producers can be overwhelmed by new technologies and their practical use on the farm," says Daryl Strohbehn, animal science professor at ISU. "We wanted to bring producers together with industry experts not only to learn about the latest innovations, but how to make them work in a seedstock operation."
The conference agenda, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 2, features speakers from Iowa State University, Cornell University, Colorado State University, ABS Global, and others, and will cover a wide variety of subjects, including using gene markers in EPDs, economic relevant traits, and the current status for DNA testing and gene markers. Additionally, the evening session will include a panel discussion, featuring seedstock producers who will discuss their current use of the latest technologies and how they plan to use them in the future.
The attendance fee is $30 for those registering before Nov. 29, and $35 for those registering after Nov. 29 and at the door. The conference will be held at the Comfort Inn and Suites Starlite Village at I-35 and 13th Street in Ames, and begins at 11 a.m.
