Manure Applicator Certification Program Offered at Turkey Grower's Annual Meeting

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University (ISU) Extension in cooperation with the Iowa Turkey Federation is offering a manure applicator certification workshop for dry manure handlers at the Iowa Turkey Federation's annual meeting on Dec. 1, 2004, 1-3 p.m.

This workshop provides confinement site manure applicators the two hours training needed to satisfy the 2005 requirements to handle dry manure.

Workshop topics include current regulatory requirements for manure applicators, requirements for sales of dry manure, and composting issues. The impending regulatory changes to meet CAFO requirements also will be addressed.

The meeting will be held at the Hotel Fort Des Moines, 1000 Walnut St., Des Moines. Applicators need to bring their current certification number to complete paperwork requirements. There is no registration fee for the meeting, but applicators are asked to pre-register prior to Nov. 29, 2004 by calling Angie Rieck-Hinz, ISU Extension program specialist at (515) 294-9590 or sending an email to amrieck@iastate.edu.
