Sustainable Agriculture Workshop Focuses on Business Planning
AMES, Iowa --Business planning is important to sustainable agriculture, which involves the invention of improved approaches to farming. Iowa State University (ISU) Extension is announcing that the Sustainable Business Planning Workshop will be offered in Iowa to help those with new ideas to gather the tools to make their operation successful.
This train-the-trainer workshop is aimed at helping educators, producers,
consultants and other agricultural professionals to learn how to train people
in their
own communities in business planning. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m.
to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday June 8, in the Scheman Building at Iowa State University.
"
This will put good practical ideas and skills into the hands of producers and
groups of individuals across Iowa who want to diversify their operations and
start small farm or rural-based businesses," said Jerry DeWitt, ISU Extension
sustainable ag coordinator.
Those who attend will receive an instructor's guide for business planning workshops and will learn how to use important business planning tools, such as the "Building a Sustainable Business" guidebook and business planning software.
This workshop is sponsored by the Center for Farm Financial Management at the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture. The program is funded by a SARE Professional Development grant. There is no fee for this program and pre-registration is required. Registration information can be found at http://extension.agron.iastate.edu/sustag/.
