EQIP Grazing System Workshop Coming to ISU Research Farm
CHARITON, Iowa -- Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) participants and other producers have an opportunity to attend the Planning Your Grazing System workshop on June 2 at the Iowa State University (ISU) McNay Research Farm near Chariton.
"This workshop is in response to requests from EQIP participants who want assistance with their pasture-related EQIP plans, and extensive watershed protection efforts with the Rathbun Lake Special Project," says Joe Sellers, ISU Extension field specialist.
The meeting will cover several topics, including managing grass, predicting animal forage needs, watering system alternatives, fescue management and renovation, and forage variety and species selection. An outdoors 'in-the-field' session will demonstrate planning a grazing system.
Presenters include Sellers, Brian Peterson, Steve Voltmer, and Kevin Reynolds of Iowa Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and Jim Secor and Dennis Maxwell of the ISU McNay Farm.
Registration is at the door and a $10 registration fee includes lunch. The program begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m. Sponsors of the workshop are NRCS, ISU Extension, the ISU McNay Farm, and Rathbun Lake Special Project Forage Program.
For more information on the seminars, contact Joe Sellers or Sonya Wallace at the Lucas County Extension office by calling (641) 774-2016.
