Limited Space Remains at 2004 Feedlot Short Course
AMES, Iowa -- The organizer of the Iowa Beef Center's popular feedlot short course series says that registrations are selling quickly.
"The response to registration has been excellent, and producers wanting to attend this year's series should register soon, before it fills up," says Darrell Busby, livestock field specialist, Iowa State University (ISU) Extension.
The five-part short course meets once a month during June, July, August, September and November at the Wallace Foundation/Armstrong Learning Center near Lewis, and kicks off on Thursday, June 3.
The 2004 series focuses on the unique challenges facing feedlot management. The inaugural session features presentations on managing health in the feedlot, beginning a marketing plan, and an update on the national animal identification plan (USAIP). Future meetings will feature business management and economics, environmental strategies, facility systems, and nutrition, including 'BRANDS,' the Iowa Beef Center's new nutrition software package.
The entire series is $175 and features feature presenters from ISU, South Dakota State University, University of Nebraska, and Certified Angus Beef(R). Past participants may attend individual sessions for $45. Class size is limited to 30 participants per session.
The short courses are co-sponsored by Certified Angus Beef(R), Ft. Dodge Animal Health, Pfizer, Citizens State Bank of Oakland, Mid States Bank of Harlan, Iowa Quality Beef, and others. Veterinarians can earn four hours of continuing education credit per session, for a total of twenty-four hours.
