4-H Offers Training in First Aid for Remote or Wilderness Areas
AMES, Iowa -- A 16-hour First Aid Course for Remote or Wilderness Areas will be offered May 8-9 at the 4-H Center near Madrid by Iowa State University (ISU) Extension 4-H Youth Development and the National Safety Council.
Staff and volunteers who lead youth on trips into remote areas must take the course to meet American Camping Association requirements. Topics covered include victim assessment and care, head and facial injuries, evacuation procedures, stings, bites and dressings and bandages.
Leading the course will be Rick Ruble, an emergency medical technician who is a health care provider for the American Heart Association and an American Red Cross first aid and CPR instructor.
The training course runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 8 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 9. The $100 registration fee includes a training manual and snacks but not lodging and meals. Registration and a $50 deposit must be received by April 15.
