Morris Named Extension 4-H Youth Development Director
AMES, Iowa -- Chuck Morris has been named director for Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development. He began this position June 1.
"Chuck Morris brings an unmatched level of experience to this position and a strong commitment to Iowa's youth," said Stanley Johnson, vice provost for ISU Extension.
Morris served as interim director of the statewide program since July 2003 and associate director since 1991. He has been part of the ISU Extension 4-H Youth Development staff at the state or county level since 1975. His Iowa 4-H roots are deep -- he became an Iowa 4-H'er at age 10.
As 4-H Youth Development director, Morris will lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of ISU Extension programs for Iowa youth, grounded in current youth development research. Each year nearly 25 percent of Iowa's school-age youth -- nearly 130,000 young people -- participate in 4-H through community clubs, school enrichment, before- and after-school programs, special interest groups and camping.
"My vision for ISU Extension's 4-H Youth Development program is to design high quality, positive youth development experiences for as many Iowa school-age youth as possible," Morris said.
During his 29 years with 4-H, Morris has led curriculum development and volunteer training. He has been recognized for his own spirit of volunteerism and excellence, receiving the 2002 State 4-H Alumni Award and the ISU Professional and Scientific Excellence Award.
Morris holds bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from Iowa State.
ISU Extension 4-H Youth Development offers hands-on learning and science-based programs to help youth gain skills, confidence and positive self-esteem so they can become successful, caring adults.
Extension also provides research-based information and education for agriculture and natural resources, business and industry, communities and families, as well as continuing education through off-campus credit courses, degree programs, service-learning programs, noncredit conferences and seminars, and educational materials.
