Fun For Everyone At Iowa 4-H Youth Conference
AMES, Iowa -- Various topics will be covered including election year politics to genetically modified organisms during the 2004 Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, June 29, to July 1 on the Iowa State University (ISU) campus in Ames. Participants need not be 4-H members and any Iowa teen who has completed 8th though 12th grade this spring may attend.
Annual registrants can select from one of the four tracks; the leadership track, Touch the Land (environmental focus), Roundup (animal science) or a new track CSI: Crops (plant science).
"The participants who enroll in CSI: Crops will conduct a plant crime scene investigation to solve insect disease, weed and plant growth problems," Brenda Allen, state 4-H program specialist, said.
Those who register for the leadership track can choose from workshops on challenge training, art and design, communication skills, glass blowing, conference choir and diversity awareness.
Participants in Roundup can expect career exploring, investigation of agricultural issues, exploratory labs, producing commodity commercials and taking part in the livestock quiz bowl.
Touch the land will include many workshops and will involve everything from politics during the election year to fly-fishing. In addition, entertainment will include dances, a scavenger hunt, casino night, a picnic and a formal banquet.
A $110 registration fee will include meals, housing and workshop expenses. Registration is due to the local county office of ISU Extension on June 9. To learn more about the conference contact the local county office.
