August Pasture Walk Coming to Rhodes Research Farm
RHODES, Iowa -- Beef producers are invited to a Pasture Management Walk at the Iowa State University (ISU) Rhodes Research Farm on Aug. 3 at 6:30 p.m., where they can discuss and ask questions about the use and improvement of creek pastures.
The program includes important issues like stream crossing establishment using Geoweb, developing a cost-share program for pasture acres, and developing a rotational grazing system on creek pastures. "Rotational grazing is raising a lot of eyebrows, and producers can see such a program in action at this pasture walk," says Dan Morrical, professor, Animal Science.
Presenters at the program include Morrical and Aaron Musselman of the Story County National Resources Conservation Service.
Pasture walks are a unique learning experience where the pasture itself is the classroom. The event is being sponsored by the Iowa Beef Center, ISU Department of Animal Science, Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The Rhodes Research Farm is located near Rhodes, Iowa. Take 234 south to Highway 330 and go southwest about 3 miles. Turn north on Binford Avenue and go one half mile. The lane to the headquarters is on the east side of the road.
