Winterset Pasture Walk to Highlight Rotational Grazing
WINTERSET, Iowa -- Beef producers can learn about rotational grazing, weed control and tall fescue management at a pasture walk on Thursday, Aug. 5 at the Randy Gamble farm near Winterset.
"Our pasture walks have been popular in the past for their relevance and convenience, and this event will be no different," says Carl Neifert, Iowa State University (ISU) Extension field specialist. "Rotational grazing is raising a lot of eyebrows, and producers can see such a program in action at this event, " he adds.
Pasture walks are a unique learning experience where the pasture itself is the classroom. Producers can see first-hand new management techniques, examine forage issues and effects on the beef herd.
Joining Neifert as presenters are Dan Morrical, professor, Animal Science, who will discuss tall fescue management, and Jane Hanson of Dow AgroSciences, who will talk about musk thistle, brush and weed control in the pasture.
The Randy Gamble farm is located at 2429 Hiatt Apple Road, or about six miles southeast of Winterset, Iowa. The walk begins at 6 p.m., and the Madison County Cattlemen will provide a light supper including burgers.
For more information, contact Carl Neifert or the Madison County ISU Extension Office at (515) 462-1001.
