ISU Offers Market Goat Education Program

The goat meat industry is one of the fastest growing agriculture industries in the country. USDA statistics indicate that goat meat imports have quadrupled in the last 10 years to over 12 million pounds. Goat numbers harvested for meat have risen to over 600,000 annually in the United States.

Iowa State University Extension and the Iowa Sheep and Wool Promotion Board are co-sponsoring an educational program via the Iowa Communications Network on Feb. 3. Dr. Rick Machen, Texas A & M, is the featured speaker. Machen will discuss management, nutrition, reproduction, along with kidding and selection. The registration fee for this event is $5. Listed below are the ICN classrooms that are hosting this event on Feb. 3, at 7 p.m. For more information contact Dan Morrical, (515) 294-0847.
