4-H Offers Outdoor Adventures Camp
AMES, Iowa -- Iowans between the ages of 12 and 14 can learn how to rough it at Outdoor Adventures, one of the many Iowa State University (ISU) Extension 4-H camps offered by the Iowa 4-H Center near Madrid. The camp will take place July 11 to 16.
Campers will learn to pack a backpack, give first aid to friends, paddle a canoe, build a campfire, put up a tent, dehydrate food, start a camp stove, bait and cast a hook and use a compass and GPS. They will also cross into the wilderness, hiking with their packs and spending two nights in a tent under the stars.
Registration is $250 before May 15 and $275 after that date. A $50 deposit is required at the time of registration. To register, contact the 4-H camp or Traci Stevens at (515) 794-3338. Financial assistance is available; for more information contact your county ISU Extension office and ask for form VI-309-FS. Campers need not be members of 4-H to participate.
