AMES, Iowa – Iowa agriculture is constantly changing and those changes impact Iowa’s environment and water resources. The Agriculture and Environment Conference, March 1-2, 2004, will focus on how agricultural land users can refine management strategies to decrease environmental risk and improve economic efficiency.
This year’s conference will focus on activities of the Integrated Farm and Livestock Management (IFLM) Demonstration Program. Hundreds of landowners throughout Iowa have participated in the IFLM program, demonstrating to themselves and their communities how to efficiently and effectively utilize manure and commercial fertilizer inputs, improve tillage practices and sustain the soil resource base. As a result, these proactive landowners are working to reduce nutrient and sediment loading into Iowa’s water bodies.
The Agriculture and the Environment Conference will be held March 1-2, in the Scheman Building at the Iowa State Center in Ames. Registration and the evening reception begin at 5 p.m., March 1. Sessions continue on March 2 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The program features more than 22 speakers and 15 workshops. Displays and posters featuring the IFLM projects and other water-quality related program will also be presented.
The registration fee is $60 if received by Feb. 23 and $70 thereafter. The fee covers the evening reception, breaks, lunch and a copy of the conference proceedings. The conference program and registration form are posted on the Web at http://extension.agron.iastate.edu/aged/water.
