Pork Regional Conferences will Focus on Increasing Profits
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa pork producers are invited to learn more about improving profitability at any of the one-day 2004 Iowa Pork Regional Conferences scheduled for next week. Iowa Pork Industry Center (IPIC), Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) and Iowa State University (ISU) Extension are cosponsoring this annual series of five meetings at different sites around the state.
The series is set for Feb. 16-20 with the program running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at each site. Preregistration fee is $20 per person, which includes the noon meal, breaks and handouts. Registration at the door is $25 per person and the noon meal is not guaranteed. All fees are payable at the door.
IPIC program specialist Colin Johnson said this year's conferences will offer information on ways to reduce costs and improve profitability.
"For example, producers will learn about strategies for managing feed costs and how to understand and reduce disease costs in their operations," Johnson said. "They'll also hear from financial and genetics experts on how to use appropriate technologies to increase profits."
Speakers and their topics include Ken Stalder from ISU, "Factors Influencing Sow Longevity"; Gerald Shurson from the University of Minnesota, "Strategies for Managing High Feed Costs"; Locke Karriker from ISU, "Understanding and Reducing the Cost of Disease"; and Dale Durchholz with AgriVisor, "Advanced Marketing Concepts."
