Grandin and Lawrence to Appear at Cornbelt Cow-Calf Conference
AMES, Iowa -- Nationally-recognized speakers will be a highlight at the 33rd annual Cornbelt Cow-Calf Conference on Feb. 28. Temple Grandin, the nation's foremost expert in humane and safe livestock handling, and John Lawrence, Iowa State University's own extension economist, will present at the conference in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Grandin, a professor at Colorado State University, is recognized throughout the world for her commitment to the improvement of livestock handling and handling facilities. Her presentation will inform producers on the latest techniques in low-stress handling of cattle to improve productivity. Lawrence, director of the Iowa Beef Center, is highly respected throughout the industry for his leadership skills and practical advice. Lawrence's presentation will feature emerging issues for cow herd operators, including an update on the national animal ID plan, the BSE situation and price outlook.
Cow-calf producers and industry personnel are invited to attend the conference at the Coliseum in Ottumwa. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the program concludes at 3:45 p.m. A registration fee of $6 includes lunch and a copy of conference proceedings. The Cornbelt Cow-Calf Conference, an annual one-day convention, focuses on management and production practices that apply to the cow-calf industry. The conference provides an opportunity for researchers and practical cattle producers to come together with over 70 industry representatives to explore current topics and issues.
The Iowa Beef Center (IBC) began operation in 1996 with a legislative mandate to support the growth and vitality of the beef cattle industry of the state.
