ISU Extension Offers Two Field Crop Scout Courses

AMES, Iowa - If you plan to work as a crop scout for the 2004 crop season, you will want to attend one of two upcoming Iowa State University Extension field crop scout schools. The curriculum consists of basic diagnostic skills required for recognizing field crop problems through lectures and workshops on plant growth and development, and identification of weeds, plant diseases and insects.

Field crop scout schools will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, and Saturday, March 6, in the Scheman Building at the Iowa State Center in Ames. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with sessions running from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Each scout school is limited to 120 participants and pre-registration is required. The program brochure and registration form are posted on the Web at http://extension.agron.iastate.edu/aged.

The cost is $70 for scouts and $40 for their managers, if received by Feb. 19 for the February school and Feb. 28 for the March school. The registration cost increases to $90 for scouts and $50 for managers after those deadlines. The fee covers materials and lunch.

Registrations may be faxed with a credit card (MasterCard, Visa or Discover only) to (515) 294-1311 or be mailed along with a check or credit card information to: ISU Agribusiness Education Program, 2104B Agronomy Hall, Ames, Iowa, 50011-1010.
