Learn About Using Living Mulch Systems for Grain Production
AMES, Iowa - Kura clover is a relatively new forage legume in United States that is gaining interest as a living mulch in Iowa. To help those interested in using this crop to feed animals or serve as a soil conservation tool, Iowa State University Extension is offering a one-day workshop on Jan. 26.
This workshop features four speakers. Ken Albrecht, University of Wisconsin-Madison, will discuss using kura clover in pastures for beef and milk production, and using this legume as living mulch in corn production. Ken Moore, Iowa State University, will address using kura clover as a forage crop.
Rick Cruse, Iowa State University, will examine the future of soil erosion in Iowa. Jeremy Singer, USDA Agricultural Research Service, will advise producers on how to implement conservation tillage practices using cover crops.
The workshop runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at the North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. The cost is $25 and includes lunch. To attend you must register by Jan. 21. No registrations will be accepted at the door.
Registration information is available at www.aep.iastate.edu or by calling (515) 294-6429.
