Dog Breeders Invited to Workshop

AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa State University (ISU) College of Veterinary Medicine, the Iowa Pet Breeder's Association, and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will be sponsoring a "Canine Care Workshop" in Ames on Saturday, Sept. 11, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The workshop will assist pet breeders in enhancing the health and well being of their dogs. Topics include canine reproduction, canine respiratory diseases and general veterinary care. Officials from USDA's Animal Care program will discuss the Animal Welfare Act, kennel design, cleaning and sanitation of kennels and state and federal regulations for dog breeders. Other speakers include Drs. Claudia Baldwin and Kim Langholz from the College of Veterinary Medicine, ISU, Dr. David Schmitt, assistant state veterinarian, and dog care experts from USDA.

Please register by Sept. 3. The fee is $25 and includes materials, proceedings and refreshments. Those registering by Sept. 3 also will receive lunch. The seminar will be held at the Quality Inn & Suites, 2601 East 13th Street (Junction I-35 and 13th Street) in Ames.
