Variety of Favorite Summer Camps Available at Iowa 4-H Camping Center
MADRID Iowa--A wide variety of camps are being offered to youth ages six to 16 at the Iowa 4-H Camping Center this summer. Youth can take part in a week of summer activities like canoeing, campfires, crafts and making new friends.
"We have fun at the Iowa 4-H Center, but we also work hard to strengthen each child's sense of belonging, independence, generosity, and mastery," said Traci Stephens, Iowa 4-H Center program specialist, "The atmosphere at camp is relaxed, yet one that is competent, challenging, and stimulating."
Some camps focus on specific areas like magic, rabbits, or water sports. More traditional camps like Outdoor Adventures, Camp Discovery and Vertical Challenge offer youth a little bit of everything.
At the Outdoor Adventures camp youth learn extreme camping. Back packing, paddling a canoe, and building a campfire are just part of the fun. This camp is great for anyone with a little or a lot of outdoor experience.
For a shorter stay, youth can spend three days at Camp Discovery. This camp includes all the traditional camp activities-nature hikes, camp songs, and swimming.
At Vertical Challenge youth will discover the ups and downs of the camp's 50-foot climbing tower. Rappelling, a high ropes course and knot-tying are all part of this camp for 13- to 16-year old youth.
For a complete listing of camps, dates and registration fees visit http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4hcenter.
Reduced fee registrations for the camps and applications for aid are due May 15 to the county Extension office. Youth need not be 4-H members to attend.
