ISU Offers Continuing Education Credits for Veterinarians
CHARITON, Iowa - Iowa veterinarians can earn five hours of continuing education credits at the 11th Annual Update for Veterinarians at the Iowa State University McNay Research Farm near Chariton.
"This year's program includes several topics of interest specific to beef and sheep practitioners," says Joe Sellers, ISU Extension field specialist. "In addition to a broad agenda, we are pleased to have nationally-known experts to present on these important topics."
The one-day meeting includes sessions on a broad range of topics, including supplementation of fescue pastures to improve cattle performance, research on fat supplementation to beef cows, scrapie genetics and eradication, BSE (mad cow disease), an update on the national animal identification program and BRANDS (Beef Ration and Nutrition Decisions Software), new from the Iowa Beef Center.
The list of speakers includes Iowa state veterinarian John Schiltz, John Johns of the University of Kentucky, and ISU Extension specialists John Lawrence, Daryl Strohbehn, Dan Morrical and Sellers. Nolan Hartwig and Maynard Hogberg of ISU will give updates on the College of Veterinary Medicine and the department of animal science, respectively.
The meeting begins at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12, with registration beginning at 8:30. Vets may register before May 7 for $35, or after May 7 or at the door for $50. Registration fees can be sent to the Lucas County Extension office, 48293 Hy-Vee Road, Chariton, Iowa 50049-1900. The event is co-sponsored by ISU Extension and the ISU Experiment Station.
