Expert to Present at Fescue Pasture Seminars
CHARITON, Iowa - A University of Kentucky (UK) expert will share practical management strategies for fescue pastures with southeast Iowa beef producers in May.
John Johns, UK extension professor of animal science, will be part of a "Managing Fescue Pastures" seminar to be held in three Iowa towns, May 11-13.
"Dr. Johns' recent research on supplementation of fescue is of key interest to producers," says Joe Sellers, Iowa State University (ISU) Extension specialist. "We are very excited for the opportunity to have Dr. Johns visit with cow/calf operators in our area."
In addition to supplementation strategies for fescue pastures, producers will also learn to identify fescue problems, renovate fescue pastures, and manage existing fescue stands. Sellers, Mark Carlton and Russ BreDahl, also of ISU Extension, will join Johns as presenters.
The seminars will be held May 11, 7 p.m. at the Mutchler Community Center in Bloomfield, May 12, 7 p.m. at the fairgrounds 4-H building in Leon, and May 13, 7:30 a.m. at Joan's Café in Millerton. The seminars are sponsored by ISU Extension, the Iowa Beef Center, and the Rathbun Watershed Special Project. There is no fee for the program and pre-registration is not required.
For more information on the seminars, contact Joe Sellers or Sonya Wallace at the Lucas County Extension office by calling (641) 774-2016.
