Learn the Science of Composting
AMES, Iowa -- The Midwest Composting School will be offered in central Iowa this summer. The intensive three-day program addresses the science of composting, handling challenging feedstocks, enhancing compost quality, using compost in construction projects, understanding compost sampling and analytical processes, and environmental regulations.
This conference offers a combination of hands-on training, lecture, discussion and problem solving. Those attending will have an opportunity to learn more about quality and certification standards, and more about what process variables make composting fail at this school.
"Participants will have an opportunity to get hands-on experience and also hear from composting experts about techniques that could give them a competitive edge," said Kapil Arora, school coordinator and Iowa State University (ISU) Extension field specialist.
The school will be held June 8 -10 at the Iowa State University's Field Extension Education Laboratory (FEEL) and is sponsored by the ISU Extension and Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The cost is $350 for registrations received or postmarked by May 24. Cost for those registering after May 25 is $400. No registrations will be accepted after June 3. More information on registration, FEEL and driving directions is available on the Web at: http://www.aep.iastate.edu/compost/ or by calling ISU Agribusiness Education Program at (515) 294-6429 or Kapil Arora at (515) 382-6551.
