ISU Professor, Academy Receive Iowa Distance Learning Association Awards
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University received two Iowa Distance
Learning Association (IDLA) annual awards April 1st at the IDLA conference
in Ames.
Richard I. Carter and the Family and Consumer Sciences Education Leadership
Academy were each recognized for excellence in distance education.
Carter, agriculture education and studies professor, was awarded the Innovator Award for his contributions to distance learning through outstanding teaching, program design and development.
"Carter continues to be an advocate of distance education and is on the leading edge of content development, delivery methodologies and technologies," said Kris Phelps, distance education manager.
Carter secured funding to convert the entire Master of Agriculture distance learning degree to a Web-based format.
The Family and Consumer Sciences Education Leadership Academy received the 2004 Points of Presence Award for their work in helping Family and Consumer Science professionals throughout the nation pursue master's degrees.
This is a small way to recognize the tremendous contributions the Academy has given to Iowa State University's distance education programs through the years," Phelps said.
The group consists of Iowa State University faculty and staff members. Cheryl O. Hausafus, Yvonne Gentzler, Beverly Kruempel, Mary Gregoire, Kris Phelps and Paula Gmelch worked to create excellent program designs and implementation methods based on the demonstrated impact of learners and learning communities.
The IDLA is a non-profit association of professionals throughout Iowa and the world who strive to continue their educations.
