Youth Groups May Apply For Iowa's Promise Grants

AMES, Iowa -- Applications are now being accepted from youth groups that wish to receive a 2004 "Iowa's Promise…Our Youth" grant for a community service project. The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service, in cooperation with Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development, is again offering grants up to $250 to qualifying groups.

Last year a total of $7,500 funded 38 projects, ranging from promoting literacy in Adair County to creating and donating survival bags for abused children and teens in Dickinson County.

To be eligible, two or more local groups must cooperate in a community service or community improvement project. One group must be a youth group such as a 4-H club, Scouts, church group or school group.

Applications and grant descriptions are available at Iowa State University county Extension offices and may be downloaded from www.volunteeriowa.org/promise.html.

Grant applications are due Feb. 2, 2004. For more information contact Sue Bogue, 4-H Youth Development specialist, at (515) 294-1533 or suebogue@iastate.edu.
