Livestock Environmental Regulation Meetings will Provide Latest Information

AMES, Iowa - A series of meetings in mid-June will provide the latest information on new Iowa regulations for livestock production. The meetings are sponsored by Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA), Iowa Pork Industry Center and Iowa State University (ISU) Extension, and will be held at five locations across the state.

IPPA Environmental Committee Chairman Steve Kerns said farmers with pork production operations would be especially interested in the program content.

"These meetings are designed for producers who want current information on current environmental regulation compliance, manure management plan development and new construction requirements," Kerns said. "There also will be presentations on odor monitoring and learning to balance nutrients for optimal crop uptake."

Speakers include Wendy Powers and Jeff Lorimor of ISU and Eldon McAfee, attorney with Beving, Swanson and Forrest. ISU Extension field specialists also will present sessions on additional topics at each location.

Producers are invited to attend any of these meetings, all of which will last about two hours. All meetings are free and no preregistration is necessary. For more information on the meeting content, contact IPPA at (800) 372-7675.
