5/12/03 Contacts: Camps Offer Hands-On Projects AMES, Iowa -- Youth can finish a project in art, photography or quilting at one of three camps offered this summer by Iowa State University (ISU) Extension at the Iowa 4-H Center. Although membership in 4-H is not required, 4-H'ers who do attend will have a project finished when they go home, according to Traci Stephens, program director at the center. Camp Shutterbugs June 22-27 offers youth ages 12-16 hands-on training by professional photographers. Campers work on indoor, outdoor, motion and night shots. They will use black lights, tripods and video and dark room equipment. Camp Wanna-Quilt-A June 29-July 2 offers youth ages 10-14 hands-on machine quilting, with machines and fabrics provided. Camp Art-rageous July 20-25 offers youth ages 10-13 hands-on training in the elements and principles of design in several media. "You'll also have time for swimming and other camp activities," Stephens said. "It's a great way to come to camp and finish your 4-H project too. No previous experience in quilting, visual arts or photography is required." For more information, call the 4-H Center at (515) 795-3338, e-mail tracis@iastate.edu, or print a copy of the camp brochure from the Web at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4hcenter/. Information also is available at local county offices of ISU Extension. -30- |
