Sessions Open To First-time Campers at 4-H Center

AMES, Iowa -- Ease into a first-time camping experience at the Iowa 4-H Center near Madrid in Boone County, suggests Traci Stephens, camp program director.
Camp Discovery, June 29 to July 2, is open to 8- to 10-year-olds and "packs nature hikes, creek stomping, pond studies, swimming, games, and much more adventure into three days," the director says. "Attending camp alone is fun, but three days often is just right for the first timer."

Bring a Big Person Camp, July 27-30, is "a great camp for quality time" and is open to campers age 6 to 11 and their over-age-18 adult companion, according to Stephens.

"You stay in a cozy, air-conditioned lodge, swim, sing by the campfire, and make camp crafts," Stephens says.

"Membership in 4-H is not a requirement to attend our camps," Stephens says. "Everyone is welcome."

Over 20 camping sessions await youth through Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development. For more information, call the 4-H Center at (515) 795-3338, e-mail tracis@iastate.edu, or print out a copy of the camp brochure from the Web site at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4hcenter/. Information also is available at local county offices of ISU Extension.
