ISU Extension Offers Organic Weed Management Workshop

It's that time of year for organic farmers to consider weed management options for their organic row crops. Iowa State University (ISU) Extension Sustainable Agriculture Program and the ISU Organic Program will co-sponsor an Integrated Weed Management Workshop to discuss these options on Tuesday, July 1, at the Armstrong Research & Demonstration Farm near Lewis.

Highlights of the workshop include discussions on crop rotation, cultivation techniques, propane flame burners and vinegar-based herbicides that may be used in organic production. In addition to integrated weed management techniques and demonstrations, weed identification and life cycles will be highlighted at this workshop.

The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $30, which includes lunch and handouts. The Armstrong Research Farm is located 11 miles southwest of Atlantic on Highway 6, 1/2 mile south on county road M53 and 3/4 mile east.

If you have question or want to register for the workshop, send an e-mail to kdelate@iastate.edu or call (515) 294-5116. More information about the workshop and other organic projects is also available at Web site: http://extension.agron.iastate.edu/organicag/.
