Armstrong Farm Research Field Day To Be Held at Lauren Christian Farm

ARMSTRONG, Iowa -- Swine and crop topics are the focus of the 10th Annual Armstrong Farm Field Day to be held June 19 at the Lauren Christian Swine Research and Demonstration Farm near Atlantic. The field day begins with registration at 3 p.m., followed by the first wagon tour at 3:30. The second wagon tour begins at 5:30 and dinner will be served between the tours.

Faculty and staff from Iowa State University (ISU) and ISU Extension will present information and illustrations at each of the six stops on the tours. Swine topics are: odor control in manure containment structures, composting, hoop gestation data and air in finisher buildings. Presentations at some stops will center on related crop topics. Speakers are ISU faculty members Wendy Powers, Jay Harmon, Mark Honeyman, John Sawyer, Antonio Mallarino, Kevin Scholbrock and Palle Pedersen, and ISU Extension field specialists Shawn Shouse and Clarke McGrath.

Dinner is sponsored in part by Iowa Pork Industry Center (IPIC) and will be prepared by the Cass County Pork Producers. Donations for the meal will be accepted.
The Lauren Christian Swine Research and Demonstration Farm is located four miles southwest of Atlantic on Highway 6.

Both it and the Armstrong Farm are owned by the Wallace Foundation for Rural Research and Development, and are operated by the ISU Agricultural Experiment Station with support from IPIC and ISU Extension.
