Iowa Beef Center Releases Two New Palm OS Tools

AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa Beef Center has released two new tools for beef producers who use hand-held computers using the Palm OS operating system.
The first is a Total Mixed Ration Mixer application that can be used to quickly adjust feed batch weights when a feed's dry matter changes or if the quantity of a ration delivered to a pen is to be adjusted by a percentage.

Using this valuable tool, producers enter the name of the ration, the batch weight and the feeds that make up the ration along with the weight and dry matter percent. Users can then change percentages within the rations and the program will automatically adjust the other percentages to compensate.

The second new release is the Field and Pasture Calculator. This application can be used as a reference to determine plant populations in a field or pasture, yield estimation of forage dry matter or grain per acre, bushels of stored grain in bins or piles, and as a quick note pad regarding a given field or pasture.

To access these new tools, go to the Iowa Beef Center Web site at www.iowabeefcenter.org and click "Downloadable Beef Cattle Software." For more information or software support, please contact the Iowa Beef Center at 515-294-BEEF.
