7/9/03 Contact: Wakonda to Host Seventh Annual 4-H Golf Tournament AMES, Iowa - A "Going for the Green" 4-H golf benefit tees off July 21 at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines. Sponsors for the Iowa 4-H Foundation's seventh annual golf outing include Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Kemin Americas, Monsanto/Corn States Hybrid Service and Pioneer Hi-Bred International. The tournament is an 18-hole best-shot scramble with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. More than $1,300 in prizes will be awarded to individuals and low-scoring foursomes. Participants also have a chance to win a new John Deere SST lawn tractor at the hole-in-one contest. Wakonda teaching professional Tom Tays conducts the pre-tournament clinic this year. Other activities include an All-American lunch buffet, evening social, dinner and live auction. Participants can bid on autographed sports memorabilia, hunting trips and golf packages from popular Iowa courses. The entry fee is $250 per person. Proceeds benefit Iowa 4-H'ers through program grants, scholarships, curriculum development, leader training and financial assistance to attend 4-H camps and conferences.
