Youth Groups May Apply For Iowa's Promise Grants

AMES, Iowa -- Applications are now being accepted from youth groups that wish to receive a 2003 "Iowa's Promise…Our Youth" grant for a community service project. The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service, in cooperation with Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development, is again offering grants up to $250 to qualifying groups.

Last year a total of $7,500 funded 41projects, ranging from providing new gym shoes to needy students in Dubuque County to replacing and hanging stage curtains at the West Monona Community High School auditorium.

To be eligible, two or more local groups must cooperate in a community service or community improvement project. One group must be a youth group such as a 4-H club, Scouts, church group or school group.

Applications and grant descriptions are available at county Iowa State University Extension offices and may be downloaded from www.volunteeriowa.org/promise.html. Grant applications are due March 15. For more information, contact Sue Bogue at (515) 294-1533 or suebogue@iastate.edu.
