New Format to Highlight Annual State 4-H Leaders Retreat

AMES, Iowa -- The 2003 State 4-H Leaders Retreat boasts a new format this year. 4-H volunteers, staff and members who are involved in leadership roles will gather to share ideas and learn new skills. This year the retreat is designed to train the trainer, so those attending the retreat can teach others what they've learned when they return home.

The annual retreat, scheduled for Feb. 22 at the Des Moines Area Community College in Newton, is sponsored by Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development. This year's program, "4-H Lights the Way," will offer sessions on photography, critical thinking about ethics, youth as partners, opportunities beyond the county, and other topics.

A silent auction during the day will help fund scholarships for leaders attending the North Central Region Volunteer Forum in November.

Current 4-H leaders, those interested in becoming leaders and senior youth who are or want to become project leaders are invited to attend the daylong program. Participants will attend a variety of sessions, selected on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration, including the $22 fee, is due to Ruth Wagner, 417 S.E. 6th St., Ankeny, IA 50021 by Feb. 7. There will be no refunds for cancellations after Feb. 14. For more information or registration materials, contact Wagner at radwagner@juno.com or the state 4-H office at (515) 294-1018.
