Field Crop Scout School Held on March 8

AMES, Iowa - If you plan to work as a crop scout, attend the upcoming Iowa State University Extension field crop scout school. You'll get an overview of basic diagnostic skills required for recognizing field crop problems through lectures and workshops on plant growth and development, soils, weeds, plant diseases and insects.

Field crop scout school will be held on Saturday March 8 in the Scheman Building at the Iowa State Center in Ames. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with sessions beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.

Scout school is limited to 125 participants and you must be preregistered to attend. The program brochure and registration form are posted on the Web at http://extension.agron.iastate.edu/aged.

The fee for scouts is $65 if received by Feb. 28 and includes written materials and lunch. After this date, the preregistration fee is $85. Managers may attend the sessions with their scouts at a reduced cost. The fee for managers is $35 if received by Feb. 28 and includes lunch. After this date, the manager fee is $45.

Field crop scout schools are sponsored by the ISU Integrated Pest Management Program and the departments of Agronomy, Entomology and Plant Pathology.
